Task 3A
Sketch
Figure 2.1 Initial ideation and sketch Week 9(25/05/2022)
Initially, I had no idea on what to make. Serif? Sans-serif? I am not
sure. But what I am sure is that I wanted to make a minimalistic
approach. I thought that I had to make a type that is similar to the 10
typefaces that Mr.Vinod gave, so I traced one of my favorite typeface
from the 10 which is Bodoni.

Deconstruction
I did a deconstruction of some of the letters from Bodoni.

Takeaways:
Digitization
Using the base of Bodoni typeface, I digitized ideas into Adobe
Illustrator.

After Mr. Vinod's feedback I try to find more idea and inspiration from
the internet. Make it not too similar to Bodoni.
Research
I ended up came across this design of typeface. A naturally curvy
typeface. This type is an adaptation from the Art movement, Art
Nouveau. An international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially
the decorative arts

This art styles implies natural curves and elements to their piece. So I
wanted to incorporate that aspect to the font

FEEDBACK
Week 9:
General Feedback:
as a beginner in designing typefaces, we usually tend to make a more
expressive and unique typeface, but it is better to approach a more
tone down typeface.
Specific Feedback:
too similar to bodoni, make a little amandements, small nuances, yet distinguishes it from bodoni
Week 10:
General Feedback:
in font lab fix the kerning (left side 0 right 20 or 50)
Specific Feedback:
Strangely consistent, some unnecessary swish on t y m n make it
similar to p fix the descenders of the y others are fine
REFLECTION
Experience
I feel like for this task, I did not quite get the first essence to the
goal of this exercise, I ended up copying Bodoni Typeface and twitching
some features here and there. It ended up looking like Bodoni, even
Mr.Vinod can tell it. After that mistake, I try to salvage it by pin
point the style of typeface that I want, and thankfully by research I am
able to find a unique approach to the typeface that I had already made.
Observations
From this task, I discover that every single letterforms have every
detail and every step of the design goes through a detail process and
consideration. For example, the descender stem on the y, or the link and
the loop in the g, all those small details must be taken into
consideration.
Findings
From designing type, I learned that It is not easy to develop a
typeface. It needs process and lots of researches.
