INSTRUCTION
Task 2
For the next weeks, our task will be creating a minimalist poster for a narrative. Either from cartoon, novel, comic books, or movies. Trying to remember what story to choose, the upcoming and rolling new MCU film Doctor Strange starts to capture all MCU fans. Even though I am not a big marvel fan, I remember one of Marvel movie that I watched and stuck to my memory is Black Panther.
In that movie there are lots of memorable moments that had left a footprint inside my mind. Being one of them is the time when Tchalla, died from the battle with Killmonger. He then woke up in a surreal scenery. It is said to be the "ancestral plane" but I am not sure. There he met the previous Black Panthers, and his father. He then got a very meaningful reunion, a closure of the problem and wisdom from his father.
Lastly is the last battle between Tchalla and Killmonger. 0.0 How exciting and thrilling is that? There was one particular scene whre Black Panther swings on the light fixture? I think I want to draw that. Cause I want only the Black Panther to show in the poster so won't give out any big spoiler. I can't find the snapshot of the scene so I screenshotted it myself so it looks kinda ugly.
So I draw some sketches from those scenes And came up with this;

I ask for comments or suggestions from Ms. Anis and Mr. Hafiz. Mr.Hafiz gave a website consist of minimalistic posters and suggest that I can go to that pathway. So I tried to make a more minimalistic poster.

After seeing this examples, I immediately thought of the Black Panther's Profile for the poster.
But profile can be to common and meh. So I re-watched Black Panther and noticed the most important thing in the movie, the one and only the heart-shaped herb.

Using these assets, I trace the picture to create the most important feature in a black panther's face suit. The ear, cat eye, the diamond shapes around is collar. Then also inserting the most important point in Black Panther's story and history, the Heart Shaped Herb, behind the silhouette. This depicts how all of this super power that the Wakanda has all came from these beautiful indigo herb.

For the log line, I try to find a real line from the movie and I came across this line.
"Millions of years ago , a meteorite made of vibranium, the strongest substance in the universe struck the continent of Africa affecting the plant life around it."
I think that is the very first line of this movie. I feel the impact and it explains very well to the entire story. This line really explains it all, how it had started this story of Black Panther. Soo, I decided to insert it into the log line.

First poster draft : Nice technical execution, ad movie title and logline, and helped me with the logline
Final poster : A nice touch on the vibranium flower, and helped me again with the logline, something to do with the flower and him being a king. Suggesting something from the movie script and combine it.
"With this herb, he is now a king. And the Black Panther."
Mr. Hafiz:
First poster draft : He suggested a more minimalistic approach and given me some examples from a website.

REFLECTION
After working on this task 2, I really learnt a lot to make a poster, especially minimalist poster. How to develop an idea from movie or narrative. Developing an idea from scratch is not easy to do. I tried several idea but it did not pass my liking. Honestly I am not really good at developing ideas. I was kind of stuck when I try to make a more simpler and minimalist poster. But after I saw some examples from the internet and re-watched the movies, I got some more inspiration for the poster and finally did this piece. It is a long way to find the idea, hopefully I will get the hang of it.
After this all are finished, I learn to appreciate MORE of any narration and movie that exist. I never had to think of what is the most impactful message or object that is inside a certain movie. This definitely had exercise my brain to do this sort of things and helped me improve more into thinking critically on any art form, in this case, movie.
