1.1 Re-make Consultation on Exercise 1
After last week's consultation and comments from Mr. Charles, I decided to change the idea for one of the design (design 2). I try to incorporate umbrella to my design, though with different design principle. Then I came across these pictures of umbrellas.
Figure 1.1.1 Old umbrella list
Figure 1.1.2 Old umbrella advertisement
Figure 1.1.3 Old umbrella flyers of prices
So, why umbrella you might ask..
Going way back, umbrellas were initially used to provide shade from the sun. Then China made waterproof umbrella. Then, it slowly emerge to be the umbrella that we know now. Back then umbrellas were the symbol of wealth and class.
From this I want to imply this element to the design. When I look at these designs of umbrella, it reminds me of flowers. Then it came to me. Lilliput!
Figure 1.1.4 Tinkerbell (lilliput model size)
Figure 1.1.5 Lily flower
So, I decided to draw a princess lilliput the only heir to the king lilliput are alone, holding flower that resembles an umbrella that protects her from any evil or other ill-driven entity. And it fits to contrast and harmony principle.
Figure 1.1.6 1st sketch
I decided to ditch the 1st sketch because flying lilliput (fairies) doesn't depict how vulnerable and helpless the fairy is without the umbrella. So I redraw some sketches.
Figure 1.1.8 2nd re-sketch
I went with the last sketch and start to digitalize it.
Figure 1.1.9 Digital coloring 1
I was not sure what color of flower to choose, either yellow or pink.
Figure 1.1.10 Digital coloring 2
Mr. Charles suggest to make a moving feel to the leaves that is being blown. Add more things and texture in the background, like flowers. Adding wilting flowers in the background to make a story of some sort and emphasize the flower umbrella even more. Drawing a movement on the leaves as the wind blows in the design.
Honestly, I wasn't sure what media to use. Digital or Hand drawn. So I try to make a hand drawn design for this piece.

I wasn't to keen on this idea, so I decided to go back to digital design.
1.2 Consultation on Exercise 2
1.2.1 Rough re-sketch
1.2.2 Re-sketch in a square space
1.2.3 Coloring and finishing touch
1.2.4 Draft design
Mr. Charles feedback was this design is very intense and bright, and we can change it by adjusting the lightweight of the lines.
