Process

Week 4-5:

Figure 1.1 Meeting with clients

The week before we met with the client and show some of our ideas that we have gathered and selected to them and see their preferences and liking.

Figure 1.7 Logo Inspiration (5)

Figure 1.8 Logo Inspiration (6)

For logo, Hadiya is doing it. I also helped a little with the logos. We decided to go for healthy, pumpkin, and roti canai combined in the logo. SO these inspirations reflect some of the aspects of our ideas.

At first we were thinking of combining logo and an icon. Combination logo!

Figure 1.9 Mascot Inspiration (1)

Figure 1.10 Mascot Inspiration(2)

Figure 1.11 Mascot Inspiration (3)

The mascot will act as an identity of the product and also the brand. We wanted it to be cartoony and fun. The client wanted the mascot to be the pumpkin. Representing the roti canai that is made out of pumpkin.

Figure 1.12 Packaging Inspiration (1)

Figure 1.13 Packaging Inspiration (2)

Figure 1.14 Packaging  Inspiration (3)

The packaging inspiration (1) is from the client, they mentioned they like oatbedient design from the beginning of our project. W try to cater from the survey that we got, where they like to see some transparency of the packaging of a food. So, we gave some options of open/transparent lid for packaging.

Overall they like the ideas and they were thinking which packaging they would like to use, etc.
SO after a couple of days we receive feedback that they wanted to do a pumpkin seed packaging (IDEALLY) but if they couldn't find a supplier to supply that particular packaging they would opt the biodegradable packaging.

We also ask which type of packaging they would like, they like the collaboration of cute illustration and also minimalistic.

Then using their feedbacks, we began to speed up on our progress of the art direction. We have 7 heads of people and our styles are very different. We proceed all the ideation and references dump in Miro board.

We plan to do these for the week:
- Logo design
- Mascot design
- Researching/suggesting packaging design
- Social media post design
- Flyer design

So we put and dump all the ideas we have from what the client have mention what direction they want. The progress includes us discussing referencing to the client's comments and preferences.

We got some feedback from Ms.Lilian and we proceed to improve!

Week 5:

Continuing our design!

Then we assign tasks to each people, Angelyn and June refined their ideas and drawings of the mascot. June and Harpreet made the social media. Azka made the advertisement.

We later decided to make a wordmark logo, since it is better for versatility and flexibility of the logo.

Figure 2.1 Digitation of logo sketches draft 1 no. 11-12

Figure 2.2 Digitation of logo sketches combining ideas from previous sketch

Suddenly we got feedback from the client that they don't want any pumpkin or roti canai related inside the logo wordmark. So most of our logo ideas and design got scrapped (because we made a more roti canai and pumpkin related logo) and need to make a brand new ideas!!

We make some progression on the logo and mascot also adding ideas for the social media and advertisement.

Hadiya made a logo ideas while I also made logo ideas. We try to go towards more a healthy and nature logo wordmark with NO pumpkin and NO roti canai.

Figure 2.5 Mascot re-design

After some input from Ms. Lilian, we proceed to edit and redefine the logo more, try to find a new direction for the logo for a wordmark logo. And also redefine the mascot to have more personality and simpleness to it.

Week 6:

For the logo, we went for a new direction and new idea.. Trying to include the brands value and brand mission, but not include pumpkin inside the logo. Hadiya came up with this sketch of fire/flame. Flame being it burns the fat. But we thought it could have some more dynamics and fun into it, so she redesign it to be more dynamic.

The mascot got redesigned by Angelyn, combining June and Angelyn's idea. We used June's pumpkin design with Angelyn's art style. Thenn, we have this mascot. Have not been named yet...
We have the filled and outlined mascot.

For the Social media we gather some ideas based on the social media inspirations we have in Miro.

We went for minimalistic, photo-based and some illustrations for our brand. To give trust to people using a real photography and attract people with fun illustration. Here are some ideas from June and Harpreet.

FEEDBACK

Week 5:

Feedback on Task 2 Progression:

-Packaging:

Seed packaging is too far fetch (no factory or supplier for this in Malaysia) . Instead of reinvent the packaging, sticking with the current usual packaging but try to add on it.. rather than try to imply the other unique packaging (seed packaging or bamboo)

-Typography:

Try to body text with header to see if it matches

-Logo:
Very nice sketches, where there are experiments of different typeface (serif and sans-serif), using some illustrative logo but it will clash with the mascot if you make a pumpkin logo.

-Sustainable message:

Don’t think that can be as the front core of the marketing strategy..
it ties in with everything, but be careful not to get into the trap
the term thrown away so much and easily
be careful to make copywriting to drive this message across
alot of message that we r trying to convey (sustainable healthy kitaketo keto diet)
if what this, try to solidify the idea,  and tied them together with our design

-Mascot:

Colored
1. Boring (only putting on arms and legs to a pumpkin)
2. 80s vibes
3. Very typical mascot design (very generic)
4. Can add personality
5. And simplify it
Graphic silhouette
1. Different and nice
2. But not really there
3. It has more personality

-Advertisement:

Try to start making the storyboard and try to think about the copywriting

-Social media:

Start designing something and make sure it is the doable quantity

Week 6:

From TBS:
- we agreed on doing wordmark, and doing a mascot seperate from the logo
- for the packaging material is still unsure (maybe plantable packaging still checking)
- for the design of packaging is the one that has transparent plastic
- simple but illustrative

-Logo Feedback from teammates:
Better to go with only the wordmark so it can be more flexible in our designs (Can put mascot on the side or anywhere)

From Ms.Lilian
-Logo:
Wordmark anyone can do it, need to put more meaning into the wordmark.
Try to find other ways to visualize the brand. If leaves are more towards nature.
Look back at previous sketches and try to incorporate it with the new logo sketch.

No consistent strokes (O,K etc)
Likes the idea of leaf like shape but can be improved.

The Oduda typeface is more jumpy and agile (looks healthy).

-Mascot:
Don't think spiral is a strong representation of nature

-Typography:
Change the header typeface, if you choose a rounded body text it is better to find a bolder or contrasting typeface like Helvetica.

Later on can ask business school for the content and the copywriting..

-Social Media:
Halloween theme for social media is not a good idea. Jumping on bandwagon is not always a good idea, confusing if you try to include the halloween into the marketing strategy.

REFLECTION

Although it has been hard to navigate in a group, with some dysfunctional teamwork. I think we slowly manage to do the work on time.

In addition, we need to collaborate with the Business School team. Where we will receive information about the product and what the direction they would want with the branding. So not only we need to consult with Ms.Lilian, we also need to consult with the TBS team.
