After we were introduced to gameplay of a table-top game, the principles, and the difference between analog and digital games. We slowly discuss and decides what we want for our table top game. The idea of ludology and narratology is very interesting. We decided that making ludology game will be the easiest to execute. But with a little bit of background story to it.

For the first discussion we were asked to pick three existing games make an aquation and try to derive the game from that; also to determine which one strong emotion we want to create from this game.

Before determining the table-top game, we listed out the games that we have played and share it together with our group members.

After that we also find inspiration from the game cafe. There are lots of games that were available, but we tried to find a more similar board games to our ideas.

The first game, we played this board game called “Ticket to Ride” we played one of the many editions of this game. To simplify it, this game had the main goal of collecting the most points. If one of the player finish to complete their task, the game ends.(?) The player who had the most points wins. There are a couple of ways you can earn that points, but you may also lose points in some way. I think this board game combine between luck and also a little bit of strategic, but still it mostly rely on luck.

The second game, is a quite hard to understand this game. We tried to understand from reading the rule book but still  failed to understand the game fully, we even ask the store keeper to explain it to us. Eventually, after he explained it to us we slowly understand the concept of the game. The goal of this game is to collect the most points, but the first player who reaches the finish line will wrap up the game. Same as the first game there are several ways to collect the points, from coins, treasures, gun powder, and also certain area will add or minus your points.

We played for almost 5 hours. We only manage to play 2 full board games. From that experience we gain lots of insights and new ideas for what we want to and don’t want to do.

Honestly we did had some opposing and different ideas after the game session. Some felt the need to add more strategic feel to our current game that had no strategic aspect at all. Because we did decide before that we wanted to make a mix between a snake and ladder game, jumanji, and .. which it is hard to make strategic the bigger aspect of this game. We can include the strategic aspect into our game, but with our idea is mostly a ludology that depends on the luck aspect.

Besides that we came up with our game board topic which is a greek mythology inspired board. Using the greek gods as the character, colosseum as the place, and so on. Then we also tried to do the sketch and ideation of characters. Don’t the board game mechanism as well!

Iterations after iterations of design, we came up with a circle shapes board game.

Special thanks to my teammate Takuto that builds and creates the idea for our game’s mechanism, that we actually based from the snake and ladder game. After he did the basic idea of the game mechanism and rules, we review and check together if we want to change and improve the ideas to prevent any oopsies and faulty on the system.

We did use a basic system of snake and ladder but eith a small twist to it.
