WEEK 10
In week 10, we were briefed about our Task 3B.
Lecture Link: here
Notes:
- Sticker size: 512 × 512 px, RGB (creating for screen)
- Must include Taylor's logo
- Choose an appropriate typeface
- Minor graphical elements
- Can't use different language
- May use 1 colour besides black and white - 1st part black and
white; 2 part introduce 1 colour of the festival
- Challenge is to ensure the type expression is readable and
legible within that given space (zoom out to view sticker)
- Actionable part is the idea part (expression)
- If the expression is not there it's also fine but it's best to
have
The topic/celebration that I chose is , Valentine's Day. Valentine's
Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint
Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a
Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named
Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a
significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance
and love in many regions of the world.
Inspiration
Before I started the design, I search up a few inspiration and ideas for the stickers.

Revised
I went for the idea from Digitation #3 which is the lip shaped sticker. But the
shape was not quite it and feels of. Using the trick that Mr.Vinod told
us, I recreate the #3. Previously I simply type the words using the 10
typeface and morph the type into the lip shaped that I had drawn. The
result was not quite it. Using the pen tool and individually draw the
letters got me this result.

I feel more satisfied with it. Not only the words are still visible, but
we can see the lip shape clearly.
To add more dimension and eye candy to the sticker, I added a shadow and
highlight to the lettering to make it appear like it extrude from the
medium but not really.

Week 12:
General Feedback:
add a white outline outside the existing outline (If your
outline is other color)
Specific Feedback:
move the taylors logo from the P to the center of the lip,
use other color besides red complete the P shape for the 1st P
Week 13:
General Feedback:
use the given golor(red, black, grey, and white), no gradient,
don't use existing typeface
Specific Feedback:
First design: not really representing valentines day other
than the color and the Taylor’s logo does not goes in with the design
The lip design: usethe pen tool (outline the line ) method
or knife.
Experience
I got an experience that I have never done before, that is designing in a smaller scale for stickers. At first I was struggling to get the best idea for the sticker. Not using any graphical elements to describe the word is challenging. I am able to get the hang of it and develop my design. I was also worried that my words can't be read well (legibility problem).
Observations
I realized that we can upgrade the simplest shape using some shading and outline. Make it more pop and legible in a smaller scale. Even though we are not allowed to use gradient, there were lots of ways to manipulate the eye into thinking it is gradient. It is important that the negative space are all equally and moderately spaced to make the word legible in a sticker form.
Findings
I found out that designing a sticker, that small graphic is as complicated as any other bigger designs. I also discover that there are a lot to consider in making a design especially sticker design. The color, the type, spacing, highlight, legibility, and so on.
